Jin Lee, M.A. ’10, has written an article, “Postmemory’s Graphic Symptom: Disembodied Voice, Repetition Compulsion, and Working through Trauma in GB Tran’s Vietnamerica,” that has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Literature and Trauma Studies.

Jin currently is a doctoral student at the University of New Hampshire.

Olga Malinovskaya, M.A. ’03, has been appointed a chair of the humanities program and a tenured professor of the English-track courses at the Institute of Social Sciences at RANEPA: The Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the largest socio-economic and humanities university in Russia and Europe.

Nick Delaini ’06 and his business partner, Ethan Mikesell, have opened a new brewery in Bloomingdale, N.Y., called the Hex and Hop. Delaini has more than 11 years of experience as a professional beekeeper and has spent his career immersed in the fundamentals of agriculture and honey bees. He truly is devoted to the bounty of our food supply: craft cuisine and drink.

Pauline B. Kaldas ’83 publishes fourth book

Pauline B. Kaldas ’83 is professor of English and creative writing at Hollins University in Roanoke, Va. She has published four books; the most recent, “Looking Both Ways,” is a collection of interlinked essays that explore family, language, politics, identity, and culture, often with a touch of humor. These essays move across time and space, beginning in Egypt and crossing the ocean to follow Pauline’s travels and the challenges of adapting to American culture and creating a family in her new world.

Her other books are “The Time Between Places” (short stories), “Letters from Cairo” (a travel memoir), and “Egyptian Compass” (poetry).

Professor Jones gives keynote for African American and African Studies Program

Esther Jones, dean of the faculty and associate professor of English, gave the keynote lecture at The Ohio State University to commemorate the Department of African American and African Studies’ 50^th anniversary. An alumna of the program (M.A. 2001), Jones kicked off the special symposium titled “This is Us: African American and African Studies at 50 Years” at the Wexner Center for the Arts, on Sept. 13.

Professor Blake publishes article on Gertrude Stein’s work

Elizabeth Blake, assistant professor of English, recently published an article on the work of Gertrude Stein in Feminist Modernist Studies. Entitled “Domesticating Gertrude Stein, or ‘banal queerness,’ ” the article juxtaposes Stein’s long love poem “Lifting Belly” with several of her plays, in order to demonstrate how domestic life gives shape to Stein’s experiments in literary form.
